Adrián Beltré, Todd Helton and Joe Mauer are headed to Cooperstown, the Baseball Writers Association of America announced their Hall of Fame election today.

Adrián Beltré, who played for the Dodgers, Mariners, Red Sox and Rangers, garnered the most votes, receiving 95.1 percent of all votes. He received the second highest percentage of votes for third basemen, behind only George Brett (98.2 percent in 1999).

Beltré has all the accolades to put him on that first ballot: Five-time Golden Glove winner, four-time Silver Slugger, 3,166 hits and 477 home runs to cap off a 20 year career.

Helton made it to Cooperstown after five years on the ballot with 79.7 percent of votes. He narrowly missed the 75 percent vote threshold last year. Known best for his batting prowess from the late 1990s to early 2000s, Helton was plagued for years by the idea that his numbers were inflated by playing in the thin air of Coors Field his entire career. The first baseman won a batting title in 2000 and the home run derby in 2001. He was a four-time Silver Slugger as well.

Mauer, a native of Minnesota, was the first overall draft pick in the amateur draft by his hometown team in 2001 and won the AL MVP with the Twins in 2009. He is a first time name on the list and was voted in with 76.1 percent of votes. He also won three batting titles.

Missing the threshold is Billy Wagner, who got 73.8 percent of the vote. He has one more year on the ballot. Gary Sheffield, a 10-year ballot veteran, also missed it with 63.9 percent of votes. Many have questioned if Sheffield deserves a place in Cooperstown after being caught using performance enhancing drugs via the BALCO scandal. He had 509 home runs in 22 seasons.
